RESOLUTION #2017- 2
DECLARING DROUGHT DISASTER
WHEREAS, during the winter of 2016 and spring of 2017, Brule County has received substantially less than normal moisture; and
WHEREAS, the lack of moisture and ensuing dry conditions have caused dugouts to dry out and extensive damage to pasture, hay lands and crops; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Brule County, especially those engaged in agricultural, are in need of assistance in coping with the hardships resulting for such drought; and
NOW IT THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Brule County, as follows:
Brule County is hereby declared to be in a state of disaster and emergency from lack of moisture and drought.
The Board of County Commissioners request that Brule County be designated as a disaster area and be eligible for emergency and disaster assistance, by the Governor of the State of South Dakota and other appropriate authorities of the State of South Dakota and of the United States Government and that its residents be afforded an opportunity to participate in State and Federal disaster relief programs and benefits.
That the Brule County Auditor is authorized and directed to communicate this declaration to the appropriate State and Federal authorities, and to interested parties, including the press.

Commissioner Nesladek moved and Commissioner Dozark seconded to enact the burn ban and advised Emergency Manager to notify the public and emergency services absolutely no open burning in Brule County until further notice.
